How do you like our website improvements?
Some of you might have noticed the sore lack of blog interaction over the holidays? I hope that this post will give you an idea of just what we’ve been up to, even though we haven’t captured it in real time.
The biggest change is the new architecture of the website. Justin and I have done a major overhaul on the menu system (which means that some pages having nothing on them as of yet!) for the purposes of usability and search engine optimization. This is by no means a finished product and we really want your feedback on any aspect that you feel could be improved!
Now for the specifics:
First off the press was the updated People page. I’ve changed things around a little and have included
am working to include all of the residents, staff and co-op board members (getting bios and photos is a bit like herding cats!. Feel free to check it out and take a sneak peak at the folks you might meet on site.
Next, we switched up the home page to be a little more informative. Justin and I had a great meeting with a mentor who has a lot of knowledge pertaining to usability, which is something we have been needing on the website. You will notice that there is a blog section, an education section and a video section. We hope that you will enjoy getting to know the ins and outs of the ecovillage through these avenues. I think that the Protect O.U.R. Ecovillage Campaign should be easier to access now along with the different ways we can all get invovled!
I’ve updated many pre-existing pages and added several new pages that have been in the works for a while: the contact page, the F.A.Q. page (please feel free to send any questions you have been itching to know the answer to!), the Commemorative Legacy Project (O.U.R. alternative to green burial), I hope that these new pages give you a larger perspective on what we are all about here at the village.
And… drum role please….
The new events plugin! We have replaced the old events system with a brand new shiny system to make it a little easier for you to find and register for courses! We were grateful to receive the pre-release of Events Registration, a wordpress plugin by David Fleming. A pre-release always means that there will be some shifts and changes as the debugging process evolves, so please be patient and don’t hesitate to contact us if you are unsure of anything!
Let us know what you think 🙂 Is there anything you hope to find but don’t? Any great ideas you have come up with as you awoke this morning? Love to hear about it!
