Seed Starts

Today, the air is a little warmer, which is code for ‘let’s go down to the sanctuary and get the seeds out!’ at O.U.R. In fact it’s pretty clear that there is nothing more springy than sitting in front of that big south facing window with a box of seeds and the Food Production Programme bulletin board and a copy of Carolyn Herriot’s The Zero-Mile Diet: A Year-Round Guide to Growing Organic Food.
O.U.R. new second year interns, Mike and Kate, will be here next week, arriving from doing permaculture work in Haiti (more on that next week!) and we’re a tit bit behind the 8 ball with our seed starts. Yes, I’m sure you have been in a similar position! The seeds are in the packages, and the rest of the potting mix will be here on Friday, followed by Mike & Kate, who are expecting to see little sprouts by early next week.
Let’s all focus some love and attention on this little gaffers so they might poke their heads out of the soil before the guests of honour arrive! And while we’re waiting… what are you planting?

Sounds like fun! I need the soil block recipe!
It’s good to read this. I’ll be there in a few weeks and can hopefully lend a helping hand in those little seeds becoming mighty yummy plants!!
We’re all looking forward to your arrival! Interns, sprouts, seeding, soil mixing… Ah, spring!
