Then and Now: Freya’s House
Things change all the time here at O.U.R. Ecovillage, which is why we are starting a ‘then and now’ feature to highlight some of the projects and progress on site. First up is Freya’s House, the first building to be completed and occupied as part of our nine-house natural building housing cluster. Soon to be lived in by Brandy, Trent, and Freya, this house incorporates timber framing, cob, rammed earth, and other natural building and permaculture principles, such as deliberate placement on the land in order to take best advantage of the sun and a living roof.
The photos from 2009 show the foundation and central frame during the first year of building, while four years on, in 2013, you can see that much of the house is now plastered, with only the finishing touches to go before Freya and her family can take up residence in her eponymous dwelling.
