Photo of the Week: Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving! These handsome fellows are part of our flock of semi-domesticated turkeys. A mix between Wild Turkey and Broad Breasted Bronze turkeys, they roam our property at will and each spring present us with several new poults. Unlike their production counterparts, our turkeys are able to breed themselves, hatch out their own poults, and raise their babies to maturity. Broad Breasted Bronze turkeys take their name from the shimmering brown of their feathers, and were very popular up until the 29th century, when the Broad Breasted White turkey took over in commercial popularity. Bronze turkeys are considered a heritage breed, and are being monitored by the American Livestock Breed Conservancy.
OUR Harvest Feast takes place today, and we are so excited to celebrate this day with OUR community and the wider network of people who have passed through at one point or another over the preceding year.
