O.U.R. ECOVILLAGE is created by a wide community of people who participate in O.U.R ECOVILLAGE in a number of ways, including the following organizational structures:
O.U.R Community Association, a BC registered non-profit society is the non-profit arm of O.U.R Ecovillage and leases part of OUR ECOVILLAGE. It consists of a Board of Directors who are responsible for all non-profit activities of O.U.R Ecovillage including educational programming, fund-raising and strategic planning. Both residents and supporters are represented on the Board. Follow this link for more.
O.U.R Ecovillage Co-operative was incorporated in June 2007. The design principles of O.U.R Co-operative follow the Canadian Co-operatives Association’s guidelines and include:
· open, voluntary membership
· “transparent” administration
· democratic participation – one member, one vote
· ethically based practices (in livelihood and lifestyle)
Its purpose is to acquire and manage lands and properties in a creative and sustainable manner to support our goal of creating, promoting and demonstrating sustainable community. As this co-operative assumes title of the property it will become the primary decision-making body for O.U.R Ecovillage and both individual members and member organizations will participate in the governance of the cooperative. Sustainable Community Development Cooperative brings together a team of consultants focusing on ecovillage design at O.U.R. Ecovillage and other projects. A major function of this group will be to organize and support the residential sector (village) as it is developed, and take part in other endeavors to enhance sustainable community, including sustainability consultation.
Everyone involved in O.U.R ECOVILLAGE is invited to attend regularly held ‘work parties’ and social gatherings.
