taking notes
This is an internship working closely with Elke Cole and the Natural Building Skillbuilders offering opportunities to support teachers, guide process, and work with the building team at O.U.R.Ecovillage. Participants will work on various projects, prepare for workshops, facilitate volunteers, deepen skills and build confidence and experience in leadership. We will be looking at your skillset and training to determine your role in our team.
Our projects include hybrid structures with Earthbag, Cob, Strawbale and Timber Frames to mention only a few. The building team is made up of professional builders, interns, guest instructors and volunteers. Tasks are varied, depending on schedules and project priorities. Interns hold fulltime positions and work in agreement with staff builders.
Applicants will have completed an apprenticeship or internship with professional natural builders or organization. You’ll have: Strong skills in Cob or Strawbale construction, broad basic natural building skills, a good understanding of general building process, other construction skills (i.e. carpentry, Timber Frame), good communication skills, a desire for teamwork, strong self motivation and discipline, positive attitude and desire to live in community. Together we will set learning goals to suit your personal path.
Minimum time frame for this internship is 3 months. Dates will be determined individually.
Continuing interns receive a stipend of $1000/month after a two week trial period. Site fees apply.
Use the following guideline to begin the application process of your internship.
1. Please write about your vision for the summer- stating your intention for this internship
2. List two or three learning goals relating to building techniques or construction in general – remember to set attainable goals that you can realistically work on
3. List two or three personal goals- things you are developing on yourself
4. Look at your schedule and make a proposal for a time line for your internship. Be sure this time frame includes the Skillbuilder program May 25- July 22.
Your application also needs to show your training, experience and references.
