About

This conference is an intentional experience of community. Whether you live in an intentional community / ecovillage / co-housing and are interested in joining or starting one, are a networker or organizer, or are new to intentional communities, this conference will have something for you. Come learn about the intentional communities of the western US, gain skills and understanding for living in and developing intentional communities, and find mutual support and camaraderie with others involved with intentional community. Come celebrate the diverse types of community that exist, expand the potential of increased inclusiveness, and explore Intentional Communities and Ecovillages and Co-Housing as a model for impacting wider social change.

Something is emerging. What has been learned from Communities in the past and what will the Communities of the Future look like?

Join us for an intergenerational inquiry at the 6th annual West Coast Communities Conference. A blend of workshops and interactive social activities, we will go deep into the topics that matter most to our communities while also making time for joyous connections, ceremony, music, and celebration.

Inspired by the Communities Conference that takes place at Twin Oaks in Virginia each year, and organized with sponsorship from the Fellowship for Intentional Communities (FIC) and Federation of Egalitarian Communities (FEC), this event promises to be a brilliant convergence of those who see the vital role community has to play in the trying times we live in. Anyone with interest or experience in worker cooperatives, rural communes, artist collectives, or any other kind of communitarian enterprise is invited to participate.

As a 6th Annual Gathering…..things just started to heat up. This year has not only the West Coast of North America coming together – but also representation from all across Canada!!  This conference is an intentional experience of community. Whether you live in an intentional community/co-housing/ecovillage, are interested in joining or starting one, are a networker or organizer, or are new to intentional communities, this conference will have something for you. Come learn about the intentional communities of the western US & all of Canada, gain skills and understanding for living in and developing intentional communities, and find mutual support and camaraderie with others involved with intentional community. Come celebrate the diverse types of community that exist, expand the potential of increased inclusiveness, and explore Intentional Community as a model for impacting wider social change.

About OUR Ecovillage

OUR land offers plenty of space to camp, dorms, private rooms, and interesting suites. There are diverse natural buildings to see and we have spaces for gatherings of different flavors: a large Yurt (great for circles and dancing), a large Community Classroom (for presentations), the Healing Sanctuary (for quiet conversation and meditation), many various natural buildings, the 150 person Zero Mile Eatery, and the Chillage (casual covered outdoor space). There are multiple types of indoor and outdoor showers, composting toilets. For some quiet time you can walk the labyrinth, sit by the pond or take a walk in the woods. You will likely see chickens, ducks, sheep, cows, deer, and much more. You may find a large straw-bale house halfway built and different coloured glass within the unfinished walls.

OUR courses are unique from almost all others as you are stepping into OUR ECOVILLAGE – a 25 acre “Sustainable Living Demonstration Site and Education Centre” and one of the most built out permaculture projects in North America.

For 19 years Our Ecovillage has been working towards “Lawful Permaculture”; having every innovative design and building project that we have created also be fully zoned, permitted & approved by regulatory officials.

Through partnering with all 3 levels of government, business & corporate sponsors, academia, and the grassroots of the wider community and it’s organizations; at OUR we bring together a range of professionals, permaculture teachers, regulatory folks, and technical stakeholders ready to train others in the next stages of how permaculture projects can become fully legal – like OURS!
