OUR Co-op Report March 2020
Posted on: March 30, 2020
We have taken some time to really really listen (internally and to the wider world of communication) before sending out OUR Newsletter for the start of the year. With an original plan of an amazing year of celebration and free workshops – everything in the world seems to have come to an abrupt re-design.
It is not lost on OUR community that we created a project for “Designing for Community Resiliency and Emergency Planning” with the Provincial Government and the Canadian Earth Institute….and found the project work suddenly move from comprehensive design to ‘no longer a drill’. With this we are feeling amazed at the timing of creating a project with neighbourhood ‘Resiliency Circles’ and having groups look at how to do ‘Community Asset Mapping’. We are hoping to link this with neighbourhood Block Watch groups (why not use existing systems!!) and have had the grand privilege of learning many new practical Permaculture Design skills for Emergency Planning and Disaster Management, creating ‘Neighbourhood Scale – Grab and Go Kits’, and a Planning Guide for Emergencies (which we are making relevant for Pandemic purposes with COVID-19)…..all under the incredible guidance/training of Chris Gilmour (Changing World). Please go and check out Chris’ work on planning and intervention response around the world – great resources and some online tools!
Moving into what is now 2020…..well – we obviously have had to delay every single course, program, visits/tours, etc. The major challenge is that all OUR beloved volunteers and Interns have pretty much all been shut out from travel over the border. OUR team is rather down on both knees and financially tanked. We are doing OUR best to find a way to bring anything we can online into a different forum for each of us to learn together. The world has began reaching in to the Ecovillage movement (and Intentional Communities movement ic.org) like never before to inquiry after the ability to create their lives to be more and more sustainable – and we have noticed a huge upscaling of contact and request for support. From land use zoning to affordable housing modelling to decision making models to food foresting…the requests are many per day. As first response to this OUR ECOVILLAGE has team up with Starhawk and Charles Williams to bring an online fun and inspiring look at an “Introduction to Permaculture and Ecovillage Design” course. This course is April 24th and all the courses after that are being designed to have an online backup given the practical planning for how uncertain the world is at present. Please let us know if you have any desire to collaborate or otherwise work on next steps for online production – OUR onsite team will be working on ‘hands-on’ learning that folks can work on in their own spaces/home and will also be looking to create recorded interviews with regulatory folks etc who are part of OUR team which works towards “Lawful Permaculture’ wide and far !
We are still in the focus of “AWAKENING THE DRAGON: reSTORYing Our Collective Future”. and OUR Internship “AWAKEN: Designing for Community Resiliency and Deep Adaptation” (how timely is this as well!! It also includes the Bright Future Now training, the Permaculture Design/Earth Activist Training and the Ecovillage Design Certificate courses). This is an unprecedented time of change in our human history……please answer the call somewhere, somehow, to fully show up for the healing of ourselves, our world wide villages, and this planet – the time is ripe to learn how ever we can! The ‘WE culture’ is now expanding quickly as we step away from the business of what seemed so important to engage in what now clearly is the priority for regenerative culture design/implementation.
NEW – OUR ECOVILLAGE is fully engaged in creating a ‘SAFE and healthy space for vulnerable sector folks who we are supporting in space AND to work with everyone on and offsite to produce as many GUARANTEED FOOD BOX/LIFESTYLE BOXs as we can possible muster ! We have had a run on inquires by folks who know that we have ramped up production (wide variety already seeded!) of veggies/fruit/inspected meat & poultry/eggs/baking etc etc. We are going fully online and will have an amazing new sorting/storage opportunity as well – please let us know if you wish to register through the current system on OUR website form. https://ourecovillage.
org/our-csa-box/. **CSA: Community Supported Agriculture is a world phenomena of how local communities support their farmers and their food security. It is an ethic in the world of community relations to look at local resiliency by looking at farmers and create collaborative ways to pre-purchases and share some of the risk of production in order to keep farmers farming (along with medical and emergency staffing – farmers are consider essential services at this time!). In OUR case we will bring together as many of the local producers and have them in social isolation on OUR farm (no one is going offsite unless come back through 2 week social isolation until more clarity of the wider COVID-19 situation occurs) to create all we can for our community and the folks we have begun supporting from the vulnerable sector.
LASTLY…..OUR ECOVILLAGE is creating an online conversation for anyone who has been connected with re-villaging through their experience with us over the past 20 years. In an effort to bring these experiences to bear on the current planning for well-being for the individuals/families/
collective and beyond….we will gather in the forum Gracelynn has been creating “Weaving Containers”. Please ask for more info if interested ~
Please everyone be safe, be well, and know that we are holding a vision for all of us to stay connected and continue re-villaging around the world as we move through this Pandemic…..and to hopefully connect in person one day when the time is right and we will all be listening in deeply as we move forward towards this ‘Certainly Uncertain Future’. Much love to you all — from all OUR team
