August Sustainable Wellness Update
by Gracelynn Lau
Ever thought about planning your day based on the Circadian rhythm? Last month at Wellness Saturday, Bree and Brad Rudner from Ecohuman Health walked us through the concept of Circadian Lifestyle and a simple morning routine that doesn’t take extra time but effectively optimize the power-nutrients intake within 5 to 20 minutes.
The Rudner take health beyond the kitchen and the gym. At the workshop we focused on the “primary nutrients” that goes beyond nutrition and vitamins – sunlight, water, oxygen, magnetism and forest bathing. We talked about how much our internal body clock is affected by environmental cues, and the benefits of waking, eating and sleeping based on the natural cycle of the light. The group attended the workshop was very international and culturally diverse, which brought so much flavour, insights and richness to the discussion.
Bree and Brad will facilitate another half day workshop in the Fall, focusing on shifting gear into hibernation mode of the Winter. Stay tuned for more news.
We are so excited to have Paula Nelson-Maddison back for a cheese-making workshop in October. Living on Gabriola Island for nearly 20 years and trying to be as sustainable as possible, Paula has spent the past 7 years hand crafting her own delicious cheeses and started teaching the lost art of cheese-making for more than 5 years now. At OUR last cheese-making workshop, most participants were surprised that cheese-making is not difficult at all! Paula makes “food science” really comprehensive and fun. At the upcoming workshop in October, Paula will demonstrate how to hand craft your own Greek Style Feta and how to hand stretch your own Mozzarella. You will learn how to create Burrata, Boccocini, sour cream, cream cheese, Boursin and your own chevre appetizer to bring home. Perfect for those who have family dairy cow and/or consider themselves “slow foodies”! The workshop is on Sunday October 28 from 10 am – 4 pm; we are also putting together a BC brewery-focused beer and wine tasting workshop on Saturday evening (the night before!) for folks who want to stay the weekend at OUR immersed village-building community. Check out OUR sustainable wellness website for online registration and more information: https://ourecovillage.org/retreats/
And last but not least, our last call out for the systemic constellation workshop on coming Sunday, August 12. Jan Hull and her facilitation team, including facilitators-in-training in her years long program, will offer a full day experience to tap in the morphic field. We will dive into the theme of how to be in intimate relationships in community. Still a few spots open for registration. Book online via our website
