rainwater harvesting

Rainwater harvesting is now a viable option for homeowners and developers. Learn about systems and possibilities, legal frameworks and pathways in this one-day course.

How much water do you use daily? Where is this water coming from? How are you using it? How can you prepare for times of drought or emergencies?

Just because rain falls from the sky, doesn’t mean we don’t have to consider contaminants, bacteria, or other hazards.  Gord will explore how to safely collect rainwater for potable purposes and for irrigation.
Rainwater potentially being a potable source supply, he’ll also cover what procedures may be required to have systems approved.

Come equipped with questions that meet your needs and have the details filtered out as part of the learning experience.

Topics covered in this course:

  • Do’s and don’ts of rainwater harvesting
  • Sizing
  • Filtration and safety
  • Storage options
  • Pumps
  • Solutions for potable water

What makes OUR Ecovillage so special?

OUR courses are unique from almost all others as you are stepping into OUR ECOVILLAGE – a 25 acre “Sustainable Living Demonstration Site and Education Centre” and one of the most built out permaculture projects in North America.

For 19 years Our Ecovillage has been working towards “Lawful Permaculture”; having every innovative design and building project that we have created also be fully zoned, permitted & approved by regulatory officials.

Through partnering with all 3 levels of government, business & corporate sponsors, academia, and the grassroots of the wider community and it’s organizations; at OUR we bring together a range of professionals, permaculture teachers, regulatory folks, and technical stakeholders ready to train others in the next stages of how permaculture projects can become fully legal – like OURS!

Land acknowledgment

OUR ECOVILLAGE is situated on unceded Indigenous lands. The Coast Salish Peoples are the guardians of these lands and waters where we live, work, pray, and play. Quw’utsun (Cowichan) is a historical place of gathering and Na’tsa’ maht Shqwaluwun/”one-heart one-mind” for many Indigenous peoples.

OUR ECOVILLAGE is committed to regenerate land and all ecosystems while acknowledging and respecting Indigenous knowledge that ensures thriving for all beings; we call this Permaculture.

OUR ECOVILLAGE is dedicated to continuously educating ourselves and our communities about the history and peoples of OUR bio-region, to assist in decolonization and re-villaging as a path towards peacemaking, from local to global.
