A message from Gord Baird, one of OUR local teachers from ECOSENSE (Victoria, BC):

I have bounced in and out of OUR ECOVILLAGE for some time now, most recently designing their new water systems.  I gave them some bad news this month and let them know that I was going to be a little delayed in installing the system!   You see, I chose to stand as the Green Party candidate for Langford Juan de Fuca , and for those in the area, you know well who I am challenging!

For years ago it was Andrew Weaver that called and requested me to run and I said “NO”.  This election – the first call came from NDP supporters.   I said YES!!!!

Governance can look great when there is collaboration.  Emergencies usually bring people together.  Watching this recent election call unfold was too much to swallow.  We need to be following the example of OUR and build community strength and well being, we need to recognize the most vulnerable, we need to push for a a Livable Basic Income, we need to continue to push the barriers that thwart affordable housing.  We need to repair democracy which these days seems so pulled by special interest groups it is thread bare.

If you live within the Highlands and Langford to T’Sou-ke, Shirley or Port Renfrew (or have family/friends there), I would offer the opportunity to chat with you on the phone, over Zoom or email.  Please feel free to connect and let friends and family know that I have my phone on me.  THE TIME IS NOW ~

Land acknowledgment

OUR ECOVILLAGE is situated on unceded Indigenous lands. The Coast Salish Peoples are the guardians of these lands and waters where we live, work, pray, and play. Quw’utsun (Cowichan) is a historical place of gathering and Na’tsa’ maht Shqwaluwun/”one-heart one-mind” for many Indigenous peoples.

OUR ECOVILLAGE is committed to regenerate land and all ecosystems while acknowledging and respecting Indigenous knowledge that ensures thriving for all beings; we call this Permaculture.

OUR ECOVILLAGE is dedicated to continuously educating ourselves and our communities about the history and peoples of OUR bio-region, to assist in decolonization and re-villaging as a path towards peacemaking, from local to global.
